As this week is Science Week we thought that it would be fantastic to have some Science for homework.

The theme of Science Week this year is Sustainability (renewable energy sources, recycling etc) and we have a couple of activities that we would like the children to complete.

Activity 1

https://year2priorslee.edublogs.org/files/2023/03/Make-a-pinwheel.pdf

Activity 2

https://year2priorslee.edublogs.org/files/2023/03/What-uses-energy-in-our-homes.pdf

The children should have come home with paper copies of these sheets on Tuesday 14th March and we would love to see photos of the pinwheels that they have made.

You can either post them on this blog or you can email them to your class teacher – Miss Brown (lucy.brown@taw.org.uk) or Mrs Bagshaw (caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk)

Many thanks,

Miss Brown and Mrs Bagshaw

Snow Day – 10.03.2023

7 fun snow day activities for kids

Good Morning Spruce and Aspen,

We know that lots of you will be very excited that we still have snow and will want to go outside and play in it! Below is a list of activities that you might like to try with the snow.

  1. Build a snow sculpture – something different to your typical snowman. A dog, a cat, a house! Let your imagination run wild.
  2. Go sledging – see if you can get your grown-ups to join in!
  3. Make a baking soda volcano – out of snow! https://www.science-sparks.com/snow-volcano/
  4. Go for a winter walk, look for animal prints and try to identify what sort of animal made each mark. Try our Winter Hunt Checklist – print it out and take it with you. Tick off what you see along the way.
  5. Look for icicles! Where’s the best place to find them, discuss how they are formed. What happens when you hold them? Use them as pencils, writing in the snow – until they melt! (be careful as they are sometimes sharp.)
  6. Make snow ice cream – you can follow this link or just add your favourite cordial or sauce https://craftinvaders.co.uk/how-to-make-snow-ice-cream/
  7. Make snow paint in jars – use old jam jars, add snow and mix with liquid paint. Take a brush and mix it round. Take outside to paint the snow or use a tray inside.

Once you have come back indoors, why don’t you:-

We would love to see any photos of the activities that you do today and you can either post them on the blog or email them to your class teacher – Miss Brown (lucy.brown@taw.org.uk) or Mrs Bagshaw (caroline.bagshaw@taw.org.uk).

Have fun and stay warm!

Mrs Bagshaw and Miss Brown 🙂
